Mer/Maemo 5 Mockup 2 (Fullscreen related)

20 01 2009

I’ve been thinking about what improvements will be good for the fullscren mode.

Although Andrew Zhilin comvinced me that horizontal app menu is not good for normal mode I think that horizontal menus will be a good option for the fullscreen mode.

Here we have  MicroB in fullscreen mode:

And when we push the app menu button…

MicroB at fullscreen with horizontal menu.

Do you’ll realize that I’ve created some new buttons:

  • At the central part of the top-bar we find the items of the app menu.
  • At right we have two buttons, one for restore the window an another for close. I’ve made the restore button thinking on the x86 distro because in a PC we don’t have the restore/full-screen button that we have nowadays on all NIT’s.
  • Right and left we have two arrow buttons, these buttons are made to quick switch to another task. I think that these arrows could be invisible when we are in fullscreen mode but without the app menu opened. Like the actual Maemo 4 Pdf Reader arrows to AvPag and RePag but in top-right and top-left of the screen, like this:

Let me see your opinion and comment about it!

Maemo/Mer UI Mockup

19 01 2009

Here I post a little mockup of the Andrew Zhilin mockup of the maemo UI for the Mer community distribution.

I made this mockups to solve a the problem (in my view) to have the app menu in the middle of the topbar. The problem is that app menu shadows the body of the app like you will see in that mockup.

menu in the middle

To solve this I think that we can rearrange the app menu to look like this  (i put the app title because there are some nostalgic people that don’t want to say “goodbye” to it.

Do you have a normal app opened:

mer3

And when you tap the menu button….                   \/

home

( without sidebar)

no_side_wmenubar1

(with sidebar)

This way you reduce the surface of the app that is covered by menus becaues menus like File, View, etc don’t have a lot of items.

I’m thinking about the fullscreen view and vertical view maybe i’ll post about it.
